Planning for a Sustainable Future: Cities Designing Urban Transitions
On 7-8 October 2024 the Urban Transitions Mission (UTM) and the Urban Transitions Mission Centre (UTMC) brought together more than a hundred city representatives, urban actors and stakeholders from all over the world to discuss how cities can be empowered to design their urban transitions.
Orsolya Küttel, CEO at the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership, attended a discussion on multi-level governance. Speakers emphasized that integrative policies need to prioritise people-centred cities and the wellbeing and quality of life of their citizens.
Cities need capacity building and financing on local level
The Finance and Funding Dialogue organised together with Viable Cities highlighted the need for significantly more investment for cities to hit their climate targets. With over half the world’s population currently living in urban areas, and that number rising to 70% by 2050, CCFLA’s assessment shows that annual urban climate finance must increase more than fivefold to attain a 1.5°C climate pathway.
Projects funded by DUT can enable local authorities and municipalities, service and infrastructure providers, and citizens to translate global strategies into local action.
