Since the start of a dedicated ambition of the European SET Plan in 2018, the concept of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) has been positioned as a core urban strategy for a decentralised clean energy system, combining technological and social innovation and providing a holistic approach for sustainable urban regeneration. In 2025, PEDs have now reached the “proof of concept” phase. The DUT Partnership and other European programmes have supported bottom-up initiatives piloting a wide range of innovations, culminating in achieving the PED Mission 2025, establishing 100+ initiator sites across Europe and creating a PED ecosystem across thousands of innovators. Since 2020, through JPI Urban Europe and DUT Calls alone, 37 PED projects with more than 70 case studies and pilots have been funded.
The DUT PED Conference will showcase achievements and best practices from projects across Europe. The event will bring together key stakeholders to advance replication and mainstreaming of the PED concept as a cornerstone for a climate-neutral, inclusive, and decarbonised Europe.
- What are key learnings from more than 100 PED pilots in Europe? Are we clear about the comparative advantage of the PED concept?
- How can we accelerate uptake of the PED concept in urban practice? What challenges remain to be addressed?
The conference is open to PED experts such as researchers and practitioners, people involved in R&I projects and EU city representatives. It will connect PED practitioners with Europe’s experts on energy, housing, and urban planning.
Call for PED project keynotes to lead breakout sessions
We are inviting PED projects, previous and current, to showcase their outcomes at the DUT PED Conference.
There are two ways to present your PED project:
1. PED project keynotes in breakout sessions (selected projects)
We are looking for inspiring and ambitious PED projects to lead the conversation in our breakout sessions. Selected projects will be featured as keynote cases to spark discussion and share key outcomes.
The project will serve as an example of meaningful and scalable impact across either technical, commercial, societal, or policy PED innovation. This will help to frame the following discussion within the breakout.
Impact: Can demonstrate clear and quantifiable impact towards the PED transition in Europe, within a relevant political, economic, societal, or technical domain of innovation
Present: Be able to briefly present your project’s impacts and success, and highlighting remaining challenges that you’d like support with
Prepare: a maximum 10-minute presentation
Interested? Please send an application by 11 July via this link.
2. Project posters for Knowledge Exchange Session (open to all projects)
All PED projects are invited to showcase their work during the Knowledge Exchange Session. You can either bring your poster to Milan or send it in advance to christoph.gollner@dutpartnership.eu by 12 September.
The session will take place on 1 October, 13:00–14:30
Registration closes 11 July 2025.
The PED Conference will be organised back-to-back the DUT Projects Event.
