Cities across Europe are being asked to do more than protect what is left of urban nature — they are being called on to restore it at scale. With National Restoration Plans due in September 2026 and Urban Nature Plans gaining momentum across the EU, the challenge is no longer only why urban nature matters, but how to plan, govern, monitor, and finance restoration in practice. 

In Urban Lunch Talk #47 Urban Nature Restoration in Practice, we will explore what urban nature restoration looks like in 2026 and what it takes to turn ambitious goals into real change on the ground. We will look at the policy frameworks shaping the debate, the practical tools cities need, and the role of research and innovation projects as well as grassroots organisations in supporting greener, healthier, and more inclusive urban environments.
