European cities face growing pressure to ensure energy resilience amidst climate change, rising costs, and social inequality. Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) offer solutions, but development is hindered by fragmented planning, limited data, and low citizen engagement. There’s a clear need for Living Labs to test and co-create innovative energy approaches in real urban settings.
4A4PEDs brings together 15 partners across 5 countries to develop a PED framework grounded in the principles of availability, accessibility, affordability, and alliance. Through Living Labs in cities of Helsinki, Amstelveen, Verona, Battenberg (Eder) and Hatzfeld (Eder) we test smart energy systems, citizen-driven planning, and scalable models to boost local energy resilience.
The project delivers tools and guidelines for building inclusive and sustainable PEDs. Outcomes include stronger local capacity, improved energy access, and tested solutions for district-level planning. By linking data, communities, and governance, 4A4PEDs supports fair energy transition across diverse European contexts.
