The JUST PEPP project aims to investigate how Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) can be designed with and by citizens in vulnerable communities and implement energy-efficient building refurbishments, renewable energy, and low-carbon transport solutions in four pilot neighborhoods in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands.

  • Co-create and implement PED solutions tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable communities at our case locations,
  • Create economic opportunities for local businesses by developing and implementing new business models for low-carbon mobility solutions.
  • Tackle the pressing challenge of energy poverty and related vulnerabilities such as transport poverty by identifying and implementing innovative PED technologies and services that promote energy efficiency and low-carbon mobility in vulnerable neighborhoods.
  • Develop an accessible, interactive digital toolbox with the knowledge needed for local governments to implement energy-positive solutions

With their varying socio-economic challenges, our cases will enable us to co-create knowledge for a just energy transition with a broad range of stakeholders and produce more effective strategies for future energy-positive city planning in various contexts. By actively involving the municipal network of our German co-applicant, Climate Alliance, we aim to ensure that the JUST PEPP project results accounts for differences in size, density, regional energy system, regulatory frameworks and mobility demands of urban areas, thus ensuring that our collaborative knowledge production, as well as solution implementation and testing, is not limited to our frontrunner districts, but cities across Europe.
