The main challenge addressed is to understand how unsealing - the removal of impervious surface - can be leveraged to improve biodiversity and ecosystem services in cities.

We will employ a combination of crowdsourcing a co-development to identify and design opportunities for unsealing, and analyse their impacts in terms biodiversity and ecosystem services.

UNSEAL will result in tools for crowdsourcing and co-developing opportunities for unsealing. In addition, we will develop new scientific knowledge on the societal benefits of unsealing and success factors for the implementation of unsealing activities.
