Urban areas are dominated by car traffic, causing congestion, pollution, and reduced accessibility. UVAR4US tackles this by exploring how Urban Vehicle Access Regulations (UVAR) can reduce car dependency, promote active and public transport, and support the 15-minute City concept, where most daily needs are reachable within a short walk or cycle.
We will co-develop a practical UVAR toolbox with four living lab cities, to test and refine strategies that limit vehicle access while prioritizing pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport. Citizen engagement and real-world experiments will ensure the toolbox is adaptable to diverse urban contexts and informs integrated policy-making.
The project will provide cities with an open-access knowledge base and validated tools to plan and design 15-minute cities. Expected benefits include reduced car dependency, improved air quality, enhanced urban livability, and evidence-based policy support for sustainable mobility solutions.
