European cities face interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, social fragmentation and unsustainable resource use. WeGrowCircle focuses on how regenerative green-social infrastructures (GSIs), spaces where nature, people, the built environment and circular practices come together, can be co-designed, governed and sustained over time. The project asks how green and social infrastructure, circularity, governance and transformative economic thinking can be integrated as one system rather than tackled separately and short-term, as in most existing initiatives.
WeGrowCircle co-designs, implements and evaluates regenerative GSI pilot actions in four Living Labs (Gothenburg, Bucharest, Brussels and Aalborg) bringing together municipalities, universities and civil society. Pilots test circular resource systems (urban farming, composting, water reuse, material reuse), hybrid green-social infrastructures (climate shelters, shared community spaces, circular furniture) and governance and stewardship models for inclusive participation and long-term ownership. Findings feed into a shared Resilient Urban Commons Framework (RUCF), enabling comparison and mutual learning across the four cities.
WeGrowCircle will deliver four operational Living Labs, the Resilient Urban Commons Framework (RUCF), shared monitoring and evaluation methods, comparative analysis across cities, and practical outputs including governance guidance, policy recommendations and replication resources. Together these will provide robust, policy-relevant and transferable models for resilient green and social infrastructure in European cities, contributing to DUT's Circular Urban Economies pathway.
