Cities today are confronted with complex energy challenges, including climate change, rising energy costs, energy poverty, and a continued dependence on large utility providers. At the same time, many citizens have limited access to renewable energy solutions and little influence over the decisions that shape their energy future.
Improving building energy efficiency is another critical priority. As urban populations grow and energy demands increase, reducing consumption while maintaining comfort and affordability becomes essential.
To achieve a successful energy transition in dense urban environments, new models are needed that enable communities to share resources, optimize energy use, increase citizen participation, and strengthen local energy resilience. Our approach wants to contribute to a more inclusive, efficient, and empowered energy ecosystem in a dense, big Mediterranean city which is Terrassa.
La Llançadora is a community-led energy cooperative that enables citizens, local businesses, and organizations to collectively generate and share renewable energy. The first initiative is to make renewable energy available to persons sharing generated energy in public and private roofs and promoting own PV installations. By combining cooperative governance, local partnerships, and citizen engagement, we empower people to become active participants in a fair, democratic, and sustainable energy transition. Additional initiatives are educational activities in schools and promote building retrofitting and sustainable mobility initiatives.
We aim to increase local renewable energy production, reduce energy costs and energy poverty, and strengthen community participation. In a short term, sharing energy from PV systems in public buildings will be running and educational and self-learning activities will be in place. In some years, the ambition is to own PV installations, as well to have services to help building retrofitting and sustainable mobility.
