The following projects have been suggested for funding in the Positive Energy Districts (PED) Transition Pathway in the DUT Call 2023.

 

1.1 Energy resilience and energy poverty

 

RESPED – Enabling Energy Resilience through new energy flexible and affordable PED concepts

RESPED aims to foster sustainable urban economies by leveraging Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) for resilience and affordability. Through urban living labs and cross-country collaboration, it seeks to empower citizens and enhance decision-making for energy poverty reduction.

1.2 Urban regeneration and refurbishments

 

EDUPED – EDUcational campuses as the drivers for Positive Energy Districts

EDUPED champions the creation of Positive Energy Districts, utilising educational campuses as catalysts for sustainable urban transformation. By harnessing the collective expertise and infrastructure of academic institutions, it aims to establish energy-positive communities through collaborative living labs across Europe.

InterPED – Regenerating Intermediate Territories through Positive Energy Districts

InterPED aims to pioneer Positive Energy Districts in Europe’s diverse ‘intermediate territories,’ targeting ecological transition through inclusive, operational strategies. Over three years, it will engage stakeholders across four countries, co-producing tools for energy transformation, aspiring to set a global benchmark.

PED-JUST – PED-oriented urban regeneration: tailored strategies for JUST energy transition in disadvantaged neighbourhoods

PED-JUST aims to foster climate-neutral cities through equitable urban regeneration. Utiliaing Living Labs, it will craft strategies in Bari, Aalborg, and Wroclaw to mitigate energy transition risks in disadvantaged areas.

1.3 Enabling systems for local energy transitions: collaboration and sustainable investment

 

MonuPED – Mainstreaming governance, co-investment and technology solutions for Positive Energy Districts in monument protected areas

MonuPED innovatively harmonises cultural heritage protection with sustainable energy goals in Monument-Protected Areas. It leverages a strategic methodology to overcome regulatory and technical barriers, ensuring energy-efficient and culturally preserved urban spaces.

This project aims to combat energy poverty in Europe by developing a 4A framework model for energy resilience, focusing on Availability, Accessibility, Affordability, and Activation. Through collaboration in living labs and educational partnerships, we strive to implement practical tools and guidelines for sustainable energy use and climate-neutral urban living.

GARDEN – Grid-Aware Decarbonization of electricity-driven Neighbourhoods (1.3; 1.2)

GARDEN tackles the integration of solar power, heat pumps, and electric vehicles into local grids, aiming to establish Positive Energy Districts with robust energy management systems. This initiative shows potential to enabling decarbonized neighborhoods, ensuring grid stability and equitable access to clean energy and e-mobility solutions.

NEEDS Repowered aims to strenghten European PEDs amidst the energy crisis by integrating local sites and showcasing retrofitting technologies. Through collaboration and innovation, it seeks to foster energy efficiency and community resilience.

Pol4PED – Crafting Policies for Positive Energy Districts: A multi-domain perspective and model-based exploration (1.2; 1.3)

Pol4PED champions sustainable urban development by crafting policies for Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) suited to European cities, ensuring technical, economic, and social feasibility. Utilizing an innovative toolbox and multi-city case studies, it strives to accelerate the adoption of PEDs, promoting decarbonized urban landscapes.

REgENEraTE – REuse for ENergy Exploitation and storage of existing urban Tunnels in Europe (1.2; 1.1)

REGENERATE aims to revolutionize urban energy by repurposing tunnels for renewable energy production and storage, ensuring local energy security and grid stability. By leveraging European cooperation, this project assesses the viability of such transformations through pilot monitoring and numerical models, promising a sustainable and socially inclusive energy future.
